Specialty Summary
The Psychiatric Rehabilitation Direct Service Worker (DSW) provides comprehensive, community-based rehabilitative services to children and adults. These services aim to strengthen clients’ independent living skills, daily self-care practices, mental health stabilization, interpersonal skill development, job readiness, and community integration as outlined in each client’s Individualized Rehabilitation Plan. Services are delivered in the home, community, and/or at the Healing Mind Wellness Outpatient Mental Health Center.
The DSW collaborates with clients’ families, medical/mental health providers, and other community supports for care coordination. They are expected to deliver high-quality care in compliance with local, state, and federal laws, adhering to COMAR and CARF regulations.
Duties and Responsibilities
- Provide in-person or telehealth direct care services to assigned clients six times per month.
- Facilitate skill-based groups for clients within the Psychiatric Rehabilitation Program.
- Implement interventions outlined in clients’ Individual Rehabilitation Plans to achieve successful outcomes.
- Develop safety plans for high-risk clients.
- Make referrals to community resources as needed.
- Participate in consultation and interdisciplinary team meetings.
- Attend all scheduled trainings and meetings to maintain licensure and certifications.
- Complete thorough and timely documentation as required by the agency.
- Follow program policies and procedures in accordance with licensing standards.
Minimum Job Requirements and Qualifications
Education:
- High school diploma with 3 years of experience, OR
- 30 hours of college credits in healthcare services, OR
- Associate’s or Bachelor’s Degree in Human Services.

- Ability to plan, organize, and manage multiple priorities.
- Flexibility to adjust tasks and work schedules as program needs arise.
- Calm and effective handling of stressful workload conditions and crises.
- Clear, professional, and respectful communication with clients, coworkers, and external contacts.
- Strong ethical conduct, integrity, and confidentiality.
- Understanding of diverse cultural, social, and religious backgrounds.
- Knowledge and application of program policies and procedures.
Training:
Continuous.
Experience:
- Three years of experience as a psychiatric specialist.
- Rehabilitative knowledge and experience.
- CPRP Certification (preferred).
Physical and Mental Demands
Physical Demands:
- Frequent communication, reaching, and manipulation of objects and office equipment.
- Regularly moving materials up to 10 pounds and occasionally up to 25+ pounds.
Mental Demands:
- Good judgment, consistency, and tolerance.
- Ability to interact effectively with a diverse population.
